Anonymous Data Collection

You can visit the webpages of the German National Library of Economics without telling us who you are. We only get to know the name of your internet service provider, the website from which you came to our website and which of our webpages you visit. This information will be used for statistical purposes. You as an individual customer remain anonymous.

Collection and Processing of Personal Data

If you call up pages and files on this website and are requested to input data about yourself, we will advert you that the transmission of these data over the internet is unsecured and can therefore be noticed or even falsified by unauthorised persons.

Utilisation and Circulation of Personal Data

The personal data collected on the webpages of the German National Library of Economics will only be used without your consent for the execution of contracts and in order to process your enquiries. Beyond this, your data will only be used with your prior consent for advertising and market research and the tailoring of electronic ZBW services to customer requirements. Equally, your data will only be used for tailoring individualised advertising if you have granted your consent. Your data will not be circulated to third parties. You can revoke your consent at any time, effective from the time of revocation.

Research Guide EconDesk

With Research Guide EconDesk the ZBW offers a chat and e-mail reference service on literature and data search, library use and other library services. For the chat, you can enter a name or an anonymous alias (optional). For e-mail communication, an e-mail address is required. In addition, your IP address is recorded for protection against misuse of the service. This information is stored for 3 months, for the further processing of your request and for the security of the systems, and then automatically deleted. Your e-mail questions and chat dialogues are anonymized manually after 3 months. The anonymized data is stored permanently to improve our service and for research purposes.

For Research Guide EconDesk the ZBW uses LibAnswers from SpringShare LLC. A data processing addendum with the provider has been entered into. Cookies

We save so-called session-cookies on your hard drive which are valid only during your visit on our website. These are needed to identify and authorise you after successful login in the protected sections of our website for the duration of your visit. These cookies will automatically be deleted from your hard drive after you have ended your visit.

By reason of its legal mandate, the ZBW maintains close relations with scientific institutions, scientists at home and abroad, practical business, and with national and international institutions of research and information provision.

E-mails

If you send us an e-mail, we will use your e-mail address only for corresponding with you. After the end of correspondence, your e-mail address will be deleted. It will not be used for other purposes or transmitted to third parties. We also advise you that unauthorised access and falsification are possible if  e-mails are transmitted without encryption.

Video conferencing

The ZBW uses video conferencing services to conduct meetings, events, webinars or conference calls. Personal data are processed during these virtual meetings. The type of data depends on what you provide to the service provider before or during the meeting. These may include the following data:

Personal data: first name, name, email address, password, phone number, profile image
Meeting data: name and description of the meeting, IP addresses, device information
Phone dial-up: phone numbers, connection data

If chat functions are used, your text inputs will be processed and saved, if applicable, until they are deleted manually. If audio and video functions are used, the image from your video camera and the sound from your device will be transmitted via the servers of the service provider and processed for conferencing. You can deactivate your camera and microphone yourself in the settings at any time during a conference. Video conferencing services offer recording options. The ZBW usually does not record conferences. Should the ZBW deviate from this in individual cases, you will be informed in advance and your permission will be requested if necessary.

The legal basis for the processing of personal data during video conferencing is Article 6 section 1 lit e. of the GDPR in junction with § 2 of the law for the establishment of the foundation ZBW (StiftZBWErG SH). The ZBW processes personal data of employees in accordance with § 15 section 1 of the Data Protection Act of the State of Schleswig-Holstein (LDSG Schleswig-Holstein). Events organised within the framework of a contract have their legal basis in Article 6 section 1 lit. b GDPR.

The ZBW will not transmit your personal data to third parties unless expressly communicated in advance. During conferences, your personal data can be seen at least partially by participants (e.g. first name, name, video, audio).

The ZBW has concluded a data processing agreement with Zoom which conforms to article 28 of the GDPR. This contract additionally includes EU standard contractual clauses to guarantee an appropriate level of data protection.
